WoW Classic is set to open up Beta testing in May 2019. The full release is due in August 2019 (perfect for school holidays). Unfortunately there’s no certainty of whether you’ll get WoW Classic beta access or not.
The beta is set to open today (May 15) on Battlenet. You’ll need an active account; WoW players will be invited to join the small testing phases of the beta test.
You can opt into the beta testing and stress testing via Account Management – select WoW Classic beta to be in with your chance of joining! Remember there’s no guarantee as Blizzard are handpicking their testers.
Blizzard have said “To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, we’ll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in”.
They’ve also confirmed participants need an active subscription or active game time on their account.
“While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure you’re in the running to join the test it doesn’t guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test. We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community.”
Why are they releasing Classic Wow?
Wow is almost 15 years old now, and has seen several patches, updates and expansions.
The problem is these expansions have had very mixed reviews, apart from the burning crusade, that was and is awesome.
Classic WoW will bring back the older die-hard Warcraft fans who miss the good old days of Vanilla WoW and give them a level of nostalgia worth paying a monthly subscription for.
It’s hard to tell how successful this project would be, but personally, I’m pretty excited to relive the old days of WoW.
