Will Need For Speed Heat compare to Underground 2?

Whilst I do like driving games, it takes something special to get my attention with them. So far, Need for Speed Heat has caught my attention with it’s similarities to Need for Speed Underground.

For me, Underground was up there with the best of the racing games, alongside the original GT (Gran Turismo) games.

I was younger, and I guess much easier to please, but there was just something about the freedom to create the car how you please. That, coupled with amazing neon lighting effects and some cracking music, it was one of the few racing games ahead of it’s time.

The first thing that has caught my eye, is the massive list of cars you can purchase and tune, take a look at EA’s full list. It’s pretty impressive.

The 2015 reboot of “Need for Speed” was designed with an action movie style narrative, similar to that of The Fast & Furious series.

However, Need for Speed’s latest game, Need for Speed Heat will allow players to choose from one of twelve customisable avatars, without loosing the story (or the character’s ability to talk).

Just like Need for Speed Underground, Heat will also be centered around street racing, custom tuning and focus on a modern, ultra stylised street racing scene.

Need for Speed Heat is based on a completely new environment to the series called Palm City, which clearly has a resemblance to Miami.

I can only imagine that the palm trees and vibrant city style of Miami could only make your over the top spoilers and neon lights look even better.

When is Need for Speed Heat coming out?

The Need for Speed Heat release date is 8th November 2019 and celebrates the Need for Speed’s 25th anniversary since the original Need for Speed game was released.

Heat is now the 24th installment in the game series, meaning we’ve enjoyed a Need for Speed game almost once a year for the past 25 years!

There are a couple of other noteworthy games coming out around the same time too, so you may want to get saving:

  • Just Dance 2020 – November 5
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – November 15
  • Death Stranding – November 8
  • Pokémon Sword and Shield – November 15
  • Shenmue III – November 19
